The National Museum of Film, Photography and Television

We visited Yorkshire this weekend and crammed in a lot of family visits which was exciting for the kids, we are all pretty shattered after the drive back.

We visited the National Museum of Film, Photography and Television in Bradford. They had a Skylanders exhibition on and the entrance was free.

It was excellent!!

They visited the museum with their cousins, Joshua and Ella (Ashley also but he wasnt in this photo).  Such beautiful smiles...

We found a giant Wash Buckler in the foyer! Oh the excitement....

We saw an exhibition of ancient (!) cameras and loads of photographic relics from the past (some of which I remembered from my own childhood, ho hum)

We found the blue room. It was so fantastic, Caden was very interested in this, he got to choose from eight skylanders and then after pressing the button the said skylander would come up on the screen. He would then walk into the area of the camera shot in the blue room and magically appear next to the skylander on the TV screen. We did quite a few, it was great!

We played with the actual television cameras and moved them around, zooming in and out of doors, couches and people. There was a voiceover giving basic instructions on how to operate the camera.

We found a super-cool floor with really child friendly interactive activities demonstrating things like, periscopes, projectors using mirrors and giant lenses, UV light, mirrors, tricks of the light. The boys had such a wonderful time here.... it was great to show Caden some things (like the UV) that we have talked about in the past together and could now add another piece of the learning jigsaw to that 'topic'. One real advantage of home educating is that you know where they are with most topics and can piece and assist them linking things together. It really is a privilege at times like that especially!

This is Miles operating the gears. Caden again also did and this time I was able to show him how the small gear has more revolutions than the large gear. He was interested in this.

Looking at the dark room through a small window.

Peekaboo!

We saw our own image from a heat sensing camera! We noted where we were hot (our faces) and cold, our coats!

There were so many other amazing exhibits but my phone ran out of power so no other photos! If you can get to Bradford this is a must! Superb day out!
