Here we are at Station Centraal in Amsterdam getting the train to Berlin! Ja!
We went right across central Germany and arrived at the Hauptbahnhof. This was at a time when there had been a few stabbings and executions by ISIS followers in train stations and I was quite nervous. I even did a couple of little drills with the boys and told them to pretend to be dead if someone was firing shots... the Berlin Christmas market attack was a couple of weeks after we left... so we were right to be aware and cautious. I spent as little time as possible in the big stations. It's a great station though, enormous!
We walked (like this) to our hostel. Jungendgastehaus
It felt good to arrive.
The room was cheap with four roomy bunk beds. The food was great and cheap but the students did get pissed up and run around the corridors. I had to put my Mum hat on and tell them off for making noise when little kids were sleeping but in reality they would sleep through anything.. it was me who couldn't sleep!
There were loads of great fallen leaves in the city... they enjoyed it!
Mum, if Eins is German for one, then what does this mean?
We walked down to the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate... more leaves, it was really amazing! I loved Berlin! It's a fantastic city!
This was a really fun day for the boys! At the Reichstag - sadly I wasn't aware that I had to book the tour up the inside to the tower in advance.. so we couldn't get in... next time I will!
They drew the Brandenburg Gate.
The UK Embassy.
This is the Jewish Memorial for WWII - the kids had a lot of fun! It's an unusual idea, interactive and of course sombre.
Then we walked through the beautiful city park...
The kids played, climbed trees, more leaf fights, just running about and having lots of fun!
