Eweleaze Farm, Weymouth

We have had our main holiday now of the year. We planned to go for 5 days to Eweleaze Farm, near Weymouth (4 nights). Because we had so much to catch up on post HESFES we skipped the first night and drove down on the Monday instead of the Sunday.

While I was getting the car packed up Miles got stuck into tools. He was asking what they were and he repeated Universal socket wrench for this one.

We got to the campsite after some procrastination and a huge detour to avoid a crash. The boys were very excited about the hay bales and played on them while I put the tent up. (hard flipping work)

This is our little camp of three tents. It was like our own tent village for a few days.

The kids are all looking at Caden's skylanders book here.

The boys are playing with a rocket toy that you jump on a carton with a tube attached to it that forces a rocket up with air. They all took it in turns, it was very popular.

The kids just hanging out.

We had a fire each night. This was the first one.

Caden helped to light it which was pretty cool for him, we got a firelighter and some cotton wool and up it went, so easy to do.

The kids toasted marshmallows and burnt sticks. It was very peaceful and cosy.

Miles is fetching (more than he should) marshmallows for the others here. He is giving some to Freddie.

Chilling out by the fire.

We needed to borrow some tent pegs so Caden helped to hammer them in.

Miles learned that he is partial to a bit of marmalade.

Miles is reading with Dallas.

The boys hanging out in our porch, playing with the little skylanders we brought.

Miles watches the goats. The campsite is set on hills right next to the sea. You can literally walk over the hill and the sea is just there, you walk down steps to it. There are animals roaming free througout the campsite and it is really well stocked with taps (with hot running water, solar powered boilers) and hot showers, composting and flushable loos. There is also a well stocked shop and barn for supplies. It was very, very well managed. I was impressed with it and would recommend it without hesitation to anyone with children. It wasn't noisy at night and there is plenty of space. There is also a great vibe. Lots of families looking really chilled out and happy spending time together, kids playing free and safely and lots to do. We all had such a good time.

This is the first trip to the sea. It did get a bit chilly on this day.

I went in with Miles, Caden took this.

Caden discovered that he likes rocks on his back. He lay there for a while getting me to put the rocks back on when they fell off.

Zoe was so kind with the boys. She had some card origami type minecraft things. This is her helping Caden to make a cave spider.

He doesn't look it on the photo but he was stoked about this.

Another day at the beach, a much warmer day too. Caden dipping his toes in off the floating pontoon.

Caden stuffing his face with our picnic lunch.

Playing with rocks.

More rock 'spa' therapy for Caden.

Miles made some friends and played with them making a little rock wall.

The kids all found a dead jellyfish. Caden went up to take a photo of it. The kids were all very excited about this.

Meg and Miles hanging out on the beach, looking at rocks, seaweed and stuff. They are such good little friends.

We walked back to the campsite with Betsey via the ponies who we fed some apples to.

Zoe very kindly helped Caden to make another minecraft figure, this time a creeper.

I took the boys for a walk over the cliff tops, about a mile each way. To a fair ground I had seen when I had jogged past earlier. It was pretty cheap and they love rides so I thought it was worth it. This was the highlight of their holiday. Miles keeps talking about it. It was called Bowleaze Cove.

For £7.99 they got a wristband (per child) which gave them 3 hours of unlimited access to the rides. After an hour and half they got bored and we got fish and chips and sat next to the sea. We were lucky enough to see some athletes competing in a triathlon. We watched them swimming in the sea and then running out of the sea, removing their wetsuits and getting trainers on then running off all wet. They looked so fit and strong. It was good to have a new thing to talk about and Caden and I talked about competing and how it would be pretty cool to be in triathlons later in life.

Here is Miles on the pirate ship

The trampolines.

The cup and saucer ride.

The paragliders (they did this 4 times)

The helter skelter which was the highlight of the day. They went on this countless times.

The train.

Cheeky face Miles!

The next day we packed up our tent and drove back but as we had all day, I took them via Sandbanks beach. I had never been here before and was blown away by how gorgeous it is. It was a hot day, the beach was packed but we got a spot by the sea and I got them an ice lolly from the corner shop.

My water baby Miles running off into the sea. He refused to wear clothes, they both refused, so they happily played on the beach in the buff, like little kids should be able to without embarrassment or fear.

We made an awesome sandcastle. Miles took huge delight later in jumping on each castle and squashing it.

Miles loves the sea so much. It was so clear and warm, really incredible. You would almost think it was the Med or somewhere in mainland Europe.

We buried Caden, which he loved and was all delighted about until he got sand in his eyes then all hell broke loose. We used up all our fresh water trying to get it out of his eyes and the sand off his hands which he kept rubbing back into his eyes.

Miles loved laying where the waves meet the land and feeling the waves suck the sand around him and splash over his shoulders. He was like a little happy fish, splashing about and giggling.

Then, I took them to a playground nearby where they had a climb about. We were exhausted after this day. I drove us back home and they both fell asleep.

This is Miles (who woke when I got home) doing his ABC song on the iPad. He is learning his ABC slowly but surely without the pressure of a school environment, at his own pace. He has been asking some great questions lately, like where does wee come from and things like that. He is sharp and remembers things well I think. He is particularly practical and likes to help out around the house and do things with his hands. He is good at making things where Caden is good at theorising them (though Miles can't articulate himself as well yet, he has only been talking properly for about 12-18m).

Miles is particularly good with people and at watching and participating with other people. Caden likes to do things alone or with very close friends. They are very different but they most of all like to be together and get a lot out of their sibling friendship. They learn from each other all the time.

Morocco 2023

Morocco was Miles' 13th birthday present. We were excited as it was our first trip to Africa.  We found an amazing restaurant for Mile...
