MK IF Fringe Festival - Pentalum et al

This was a lovely art installation we came across on the way to the Pentalum feature. It is called Breathing Room. It was very nice to go into. The walls are made of coned A4 paper (rolled into a cone) and the cones are all attached to one another in small dome shapes. They are made of paper from charities, the artist is using it as a way to make a non-commercial entity occupy a commercial premises. The walls actually moved in and out, they seemed to breathe.

Then we walked on further and saw the Pentalum structure. The kids were very excited!.

This was the map. Caden was in charge of that of course.

The structure was made of several domes, the patterns of the domes was based on geometric patterns found in nature. There was a blue, red, green and main dome and a tree in the middle.

This was the blue dome ceiling.

It was so relaxing inside. There was calming chillout type music playing and the walls were all sloping, like a bouncy castle only the kids weren't allowed to bounce off the walls. We spent quite a bit of time laying together and enjoying the environment. Sooo relaxing....

The photos have all come out really artistically, here is Caden inside a pod. There were lots of pods which people would go into to sit/lay/stand and absorb the environment.

Miles has his hook and his sword ready here haha.

This is the top of the tree. The shapes are amazing.

More blue dome.

This is the map close up.

We had more of a play about taking photos and just enjoying being together in that space.

This is the ceiling of the main dome. The boys liked laying on their backs and turning around and around in circles to make the pattern spin.

I lay on my back with my feet in the air while they climbed all over me.

We were so happy and relaxed we stayed an hour in total and took lots of photos just mucking about. It was fun!

They played spinning tops

Then their friends arrived so they had another explore of the tunnels and pods together.

Some cool photos of the five of them all together.

Then we all went up to the Lock Shift Songs feature. This was a darkened room with music that sounded like it was meant to be water, playing. When you got into the beds the mattresses vibrated with low frequency sounds and you 'experienced' the music too. It was a very relaxing experience, all 4 minutes of us actually being in the bed after a 15 minute wait for other people hogging the exhibit whilst I was told I had to keep three toddlers quiet in a quiet-ish room Hmm! (miffed about it, much!).

It was a worthwhile visit though. Caden particularly enjoyed the experience.

Morocco 2023

Morocco was Miles' 13th birthday present. We were excited as it was our first trip to Africa.  We found an amazing restaurant for Mile...
