Mammoth Maths Lesson

We decided to get through a bit of maths and academic stuff today. We were going to go to the splash park but the boys seemed happier to stay home. We have been outdoors a lot lately.

Miles completed two levels. One on Mathseeds, he is doing well with numbers and we got his next acorn which was a cheese mouse.

He is finding reading more of a struggle but he is only 3 so of course it doesn't matter. I feel better exposing him to words and he enjoys sitting with me, there is no pressure, it is just fun for us. He got another reading egg, with a little help from Mum and was pleased to get apple ant out of the egg.

Then he went off and dressed up in some plastic beads and things.  He found an old coin shape and said he was pretending it was a shield. His language skills have improved vastly in the last few months. He really understands and converses well now.

Caden and I had a mammoth maths session. We actually got through so much stuff in one sitting with two breaks of 10 minutes. Today we covered plane shapes, rhombuses and hexagons etc. We covered symmetry, the oval and sides and corners. He knows his left and right and place position (not decimal yet) from our countless walks and his being the navigator and various normal everyday, life conversations that we have. So the sections on left and right and where items are in relation to one another, we didn't even watch the accompanying teaching video on conquer maths because he knows the stuff from everyday life, he scored 100% for all of this stuff. It's important I think that this online work is done by him though because then I have a record for the future to show what Caden has done, we know where we are with the UK national curriculum comparison.

We covered 3D objects as well and various aspects of the cube shape.

We now only have graphs and chance to finish and we have completed all of Year 1 maths (in about 4 months and only doing it when he felt like it). The one to one tuition and getting it done when he is motivated is proving to be a winner!

Morocco was Miles' 13th birthday present. We were excited as it was our first trip to Africa.  We found an amazing restaurant for Mile...
