Prague - Interrailing 2016

So we hung around quite bored until 10pm when our sleeper train was at the platform and got to our cabin. We were over the moon! The kids were so excited! Miles on the bottom, Caden in the middle and Me at the top.

The kids went off to sleep immediately. The plan was to do this overnight sleep on the train, then wake up at 6am after let's say 7 hours of refreshing sleep to take on a whole day out in Prague with enthusiasm from 6am the next day when the train pulled into the station....

Reality: Kids fell asleep as soon as their heads hit their pillows. Me... listening to every clickety clack on the track, voices in the hall, feeling the brakes and the acceleration of the train and also mounting anxiety that this wasn't the night's sleep I had planned and I had to cart two kids around Prague all day the next day... I maybe got 2 hours of broken sleep.

Unless you are the kind of person who can catch flies sat up on a park bench then I do not recommend a sleeper train... especially with young children, if you need your sleep!

But still... it was comfortable and we did have privacy and the kids DID love it very much and the guard was kind and friendly... it could have been worse.

In the morning I dragged my sorry self out of the top bunk, woke the kids and we staggered out into Prague... I was exhausted and the kids were fine! We got a breakfast and I drank about 10 coffees...

We found a students hairdressers in the morning and decided to go for it, for the fun!

Not the hair of the barber doing Caden's hair... note Caden's suspicious expression and try to imagine what I told the hairdresser to do... (Caden did agree, I am not that cruel)

Later on when the boys had posed in the mirror at the hairdressers and looked at themselves in every shop window en route.. we got to our little apartment. We dropped our bags and went out around Prague with a vague idea of getting to the castle on the other side of the river.

The boys were so happy with their curly donut and crisps on a stick! Caden's donut is trying on Caden's new hair to see how it fits!

Prague is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen. It is completely stunning, I could look at this view all day! The photos do not do it justice at all!

So we hopped on a bus to get closer to the river and hopped off. Had another coffee - I was running on caffeine this day! We walked up the hill. Got into the castle area with no idea what was going on but there did appear to be a lot of tourists and we were lucky as it was a fine, clear day!

Smiley Milesy!

We visited the Toy Museum! It was very cool!

And terrifying.... !!!

Some great exhibitions which all three of us really enjoyed

And some that confused us...

We carried on through the courtyard and found this beautiful church.

We were very lucky as there was a crowd gathered for some ceremony, with trumpets, uniforms and marching, we didn't understand the significance of it but it was great to see and be a part of.

This was a beautiful thing.. some dude had a giant bubble maker and children of all nationalities were running around bursting them, Caden joined in.

After this we wandered back down the other side of the hill and found a vegetarian restaurant for lunch.

Then we found a fabulous playground where the kids climbed and got stuck in! We wanted to get the funicular train up the hill to the mini eiffel tower and the mirror maze.

This is the boys sat on the funicular waiting for it to go up the hill.. it was very busy.

The people were very friendly and encouraged the boys to stand by the window to see the view. It was exciting to be on a train that goes up and down. It saved our legs too!

The mini Eiffel tower. We chose to visit the mirror maze instead of this.

The mirror maze was so funny! We really enjoyed it!

My little hobbits!

Then back down the funicular to make our way to our little room and chill out after a long and fantastic day! No sleeper train tonight - hurrah!

There are loads of artistic features around Prague..

Harry Potter and the cursed child had just come out and Caden is a big fan!

I highly recommend Prague with kids, the bus and tram systems are easy to get around on and there is so much to do which doesn't cost any money at all! It's beautiful and interesting!
